• Hi all!

I noticed that wordpress stores the files in the year/month structure when uploading. This is ok so far. Unfortunately, wordpress does not take into account the date I created the images. Only the upload date. I would like to change this.

    Does anyone know how
    a) I can use the creation date instead of the upload date?
    b) I can correct my existing images accordingly?

I have already looked at a few plug-ins. But many go far beyond what would like and take a correspondingly long time to learn. Maybe someone knows other plug-ins that do this easily?

The creation date is not always embedded in image files, and the date from the client computer is not part of uploaded data. The WP UI often refers to the date as “Uploaded on”, so it’d be inaccurate to use the creation date without changing UI text as well, which is impractical.

If the date is embedded as EXIF or IPTC metadata, it could be extracted and displayed, but because the data is in the file and not the database, processing many images would be very slow. One of the image organizer plugins might extract that date and place it in the database for speedier processing.
