Media Library gone awry – is it my host? or wordpress?

  • greetings.

    in the past couple of weeks my blog seems to have developed a mind of its own, and some of the features I’m accustomed to just being there have started to disappear.

    about a week ago I no longer have the ability to create thumbnails, medium or large size images when I upload an image, so i have to manually resize all my images now.
    my media library window thus looks like this:

    and about two or three days ago the ‘gallery’ tab inside the upload window is now disappeared, as if the images i’m uploading are no longer associated with that post. it looks like this, where the highlighted part is now missing:

    does anybody know if this is a fault of wordpress or my host, mediatemple? I suspect the latter, because I haven’t installed any new plugins or anything that could make wordpress stop making thumbnails! but how do I tell them I’m upset with their service and they should provide better for their clients?
