Not sure how to explain this:

Media library, some images display with the proper file name, but only the default image; click on it to see/edit the individual image and the url is correct, and the title is there, but the image shows only as the default image. And, if I actually go to the url, the image is there and does exist right where it should.

I would guess there is some sort of database corruption. I don’t know how long it has been this way because all of the affected items are several years old, and were only discovered when doing a search in the media library.

The images display correctly in the older blog posts (they are attached to certain posts in most cases); but you can’t use them in a newer post unless you key in the src url directly.

I’m not even sure where to start looking? post_meta? posts?

  • Was the site moved to another host in those years?

Yes it was moved… at least twice.

Interesting enough, I cloned the site (Cloner plugin from WPMU Dev) so I could have a copy to work on. The act of cloning it cleared up the problem.

I’m pretty sure it was the postmeta that was all out of kilter. But, not it all works.
