Hi, I noticed that I suddenly have more than 22000 copies of one and the same image. I use WPML and it occurs only on the English version, not the German. I use WP Optimize also for the images, but this never happened before. The image files seem to be empty, it mentions “???” for the file size…Does anyone know what this is? Thanks…

    Hi,

This looks to be a WPML issue, this thread might help: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-duplicated-all-my-images/

I would recommend that you contact their support.

    Hi,

thanks for this! I contacted them, but have not received an answer yet. I am not sure if it has to do with WPML, since only one picture got duplicated that many times…

Have you had a reply yet, the duplicated image were they all one size or different sizes?

Hi, it was the exact copy of the same image, multiplied 22000 times. WPML support wrote me back and suggested to search for the IDs via SQL request and then delete the post meta and then post entries. After that, I should make a “ghost cleanup process”. So it looks like they are ghost files. Still, WPML says it must not come form their plugin. I have not done this process by now because I am not capable to do it and hope WPML support will offer to do it for me…

Hi there, if someone is following this – doing the steps described above did the trick. The ghost files could be deleted and the media library has been cleaned from the duplicates.
