• Hello – I have been asked to troubleshoot a problem on this page:

    https://www.rochesteralist.com/

When they go to add an image to a post, the media library never loads. The “loading” gray circle just swirls indefinitely in ALL browsers.

I have seen NO js errors when I open the console.

I have been told I can not disable a pagebuilder plugin (Bunyad Page Builder) because it will break the layouts of the pages, so I’m not sure how else to troubleshoot this problem. I am trying to set up a dummy site to disable that plugin on, but in the meantime I was hoping maybe someone new another way to possible locate the errors.

I have been able to simply insert images via HTML for them for now, but we can’t set the “featured image” until the media library loads.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I did see that the console shows repeated loading of the admin-ajax.php file. No errors, it just keeps showing it loading which it doesn’t do in my other WP installs. Not sure if that helps at all.

As I mentioned before, I don’t have permission to turn off/on the Bunyad Page Builder because I was told it would break the way the site displays and they don’t want the downtime. I mentioned I was setting up a mock dummy site to try to disable the plugin there, but until that’s up I’m trying everything else.

The link you gave “resetting the plugins folder” – if I do that, rename the plugins folder to plugins.hold, will visitors to the site notice a problem while it’s called that?
