Media Library not unattaching unused images

Have you tried the default WordPress Media Librady to found what images are used on your website?

You can find all files that are not attached to any page or post and later delete them as you see in the image above using that feature.

OK. This probably will be an error that occurred when you’re merging the three blogs, or the method you have used to achieve that. First make sure you have moved all the images correctly from one host to another.

Another possible way to solve this may be a plugin like Media Cleaner that does this automatically.

I tried media cleaner, however I have over 1,000 images in maxgalleria galleries that it doesn’t recognise as being in use (i.e it says they’re all unused but they’re all in galleries).

Do you know of something similar that works with max galleria?

If you have a paid version of your gallery plugin, then it will be a great idea to ask for support for this issue directly in the support forum to obtain the best way to solve this.

If not, you can publish a topic in the support forum of that plugin right here, and wait for the developer’s help, or someone else.

@ranss I’m not having a problem with maxgalleria though. It’s working fine. Media gallery has attached the images. The plugin you mentioned earlier doesn’t recognise they are being used.

The problem I am having is that WordPress is not detaching images when they have been removed from a page. So when I go to the media library and view unattached images, the unused files don’t show.

Are you sure that those images are uploaded to the default media library folder, i mean the uploads folder in your installation?

Please make sure that those images you uploads using that plugin or another exist inside the main directory of your medias.

Yes, all of the images for both are in the default uploads folder.

I think this behavior will mean a one thing. Your images are still referenced in your website and indexed in your database, and for that reason, is not appearing as unattached media files.

I can suggests you to try a plugin called Image Cleanup.

What this plugin does is searching over your database to find if the images uploaded on your website posts and pages, and it finds that a specific image is not used by posts, scripts or backup restore meta data.

Please, I recommends you to create a full and complete backup of your website and database before using this plugin, to preserve the integrity of the website in case of finding any problem.
