I have a WordPress set up to use large rotating images on the home page. These images are about 300-400KB at 1680px wide, which is large but not larger than I’ve used on other sites. Every time we upload an image to the Media Library, it resizes to 1400px wide. When I connect via FTP and re-download the image we just uploaded, it downloads at the original size (300-400KB at 1680px wide). The smaller size is making all the images on the site fuzzy and lower quality. I can’t seem to find any reason this would be happening and can’t find support anywhere for this specific issue. Can anyone offer any insight? Thanks.

Do you re-download the image from wp-content/uploads? Are there a few versions of that image in that location? If so, it’s possible that your theme is set up to resize images to 1400px wide, and that your image slider/carousel is pulling in that re-sized image.

Did you check check Settings > Media to see the images sizes that are registered? Is one of the sizes 1400px wide?

Also, what theme are using? And what are you using to rotate the images on the homepage?

Thanks for your response and sorry for my delay—WP didn’t alert me there was a response—but I actually figured this out. It was the adaptive images plugin we’re using that was automatically resizing all images over 1400px down to 1400px, rather than something within WordPress. Thanks again for your response.
