• I have noticed on 2 of the sites I run that since the media library was updated the ranking of my images has suffered a lot.

I noticed this in 2 sites that are not in related sectors and that have been steadily increasing in rank.
Previously both sites ranked very highly in image searches, 1 site in particular dominated listings with as many as 5 images on the first page of Google.

Since the media update ALL of the images for any search term have dropped to the 2nd page or lower, even for non competitive keywords/search terms.

Nothing else has changed on the sites, no theme updates, no coding, the only difference was the medial library update.

    Anyone else notice similar?

  • Google made significant changes in their image search/rankings in January – you’ll find lots of discussion on that topic in many places on the web.

Aware of that update and as I said in the OP the pages containing the images are climbing steadily it is the images that have disappeared.

Every image is perfectly optimized and the name of the image, URL, page title, h1, alt-image, h2 (variation of main keyword) and content all match the image keyword.

I do believe that there are issues with timthumb which will stop image alts being displayed and that a lot of sliders drop the image alts, perhaps this is the cause.

I have looked at a number of plugins for this but none work.
