    Hello,

I have a question about the options under the Search Appearance > Media tab.

Currently, my site is having an issue where google is indexing my media as individual pages. Obviously I don’t want it to do that so I am trying to configure Yoast to take care of that for me.

    There are two options:

    A. I can set the “Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?” to “Yes”. From what I understand, this simply disables and redirects these image pages back to the content page.

    B. I can set “Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?” to “No” and then set “Show Media in search results?” to “No”. From what I understand, this keeps the media pages enabled but tags them with a “noindex” tag so that the google robots don’t index it.

Which of these is the better approach for getting google to not index these media pages? They seem to both be doing it but from different approaches.

    Thanks

It is recommended to enable the media (attachment) redirect that will redirect the media (attachment) pages to the media files. However, if you want to show the media (attachment) pages to your visitors, you can disable the media (attachment) redirects and set NO so they won’t appear in the search results. Both of these options are fine and depends on your need.
