• Brand new to WP, thanks for your help.

The media selection dialog (LightBox?) remains open indefinitely after I select an image for the site icon and click Select at the lower right. As a result, I’m unable to specify the image to use.

This only occurs at my local site, not at my staging or production site. It also only occurs during site icon selection, not during other similar functions (e.g. setting a page’s featured image).

Has anyone seen this before? If so, what’s the fix?

    Thanks,

    (LightBox?)

    Please identify which Lighbox https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/search/LightBox/

Then ask in its dedicated support forum so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

Pardon me, I didn’t realize that “LightBox” was the name/concept of a plugin. I thought it was the friendly name of the standard WP media selection dialog. I saw the word used somewhere in a related context and made an incorrect assumption.

This is the standard, in-built media selection dialog with the two tabs (Upload Files, Media Library) that we get when we click the ‘Select site icon’ button in Appearance > Customize > Default Settings > Site Identity.

When I choose an image on the Media Library tab and click the Select button at the lower right, the dialog doesn’t close itself like it does in other areas (e.g. setting a page’s featured image). It just stays open indefinitely, never closing and populating the site icon field.

And it only does this on my local installation. My GoDaddy-hosted staging and production sites work fine. This is WP v5.7 (updated manually from v5.6.2) running on XAMPP on my Win10 20H2 machine.

Does that explain it a bit better?

    Try:

    – Deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – Switching to the Twenty Twenty theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Alternately, you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Shucky darn, that didn’t help I’m afraid. (But thanks for the lead on Health Check—I like that one.)

For a moment I considered the notion that the dev side dialog might be missing some code for some reason, so I ran a quick file diff between dev and test.

I came up with a few hundred hits, so I guess I won’t be trying that again!

I should probably just be content that it’s only happening in dev (haven’t tried prod yet) and get on with my work. At this point it’s not much more than a nuisance, so I suppose I can ignore it.
