Media Temple Database Import

  • I’m trying to import my database from an old site to a new one based on Media Temple’s hosting. Unfortunately, I’m moving from SQL 4.x to 3.x, and the guy at MT said that was causing problems. However, I can find nothing talking about how that might cause problems on the web.

    Furthermore, and I’m not sure if this is causing problems, MT has an upload limit of 2MB on the database uploads, otherwise you need shell access. My compressed databases are under 500kb, while the text is 3.83MB.

    I keep getting errors, it wont let me upload or it gives me huge parsing errors or something or other. Has anyone else had problems moving to media temple? I would really like to resolve this asap.

  • WP requires PHP version 4.1 or greater…

    Actually, I’ve manage a site with a WP blog at MT for over a year now and have had very little problems. Yes, I have updated to the latest WP and the only problem I’ve encountered is that the Pages aren’t functioning as they should. I’m not sure that’s a MT problem or a htaccess problem since I just discovered they were not functioning.

    WP can be installed and used on an older MySQL database application. However, moving from a newer MySQL to an older one will cause errors. I experienced it when I setup a CMS on my test site and then tried to move it to MT’s servers. I was able to resolve the issue but can’t remember how I did it. I think I found something that helped by doing a search. Sorry, it’s been awhile since I made the changes.
