Media upload and 4.1 upgrade issues

I am having a couple of issues and I am not sure how to resolve them. First of all I can no longer upload anything to my media gallery. It gives me the following error:

“frozen 2.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2014/12.

I am not sure if this has to due with my other issue, which is I cannot upgrade to version 4.1 because it gives me the following error:

Could not copy file.: wordpress/wp-admin/network/site-settings.php

Installation Failed

I am not extremely savvy with all the logistics of WordPress yet so any help I can get will be appreciated!
