• Hi!
First of all, apologies if I chose the wrong forum, but thought it was the most appropriate. Also, despite having looked for hours, I couldn’t find an existing topic covering the question, but if I missed it, I’m sorry.
The issue: I’ve converted a Word Document on Mac (2019) to PDF and uploaded it to my site. The PDF contains several links to external pages (eg Twitter, LinkedIn, external Websites) and all work. Following the upload, half of the links don’t work anymore, i.e. when the PDF gets downloaded from the website a large number of links is not recognised anymore.
I assume that it is an issue with the link length (those that are too long and the line break breaking the link) or structure (those without www. at the beginning), so that the link is not recognised anymore, but that’s a problem you would expect when converting to PDF not during the up- or download, right?
Any thoughts how to resolve the problem or find a way around it?
    Many thanks!

  • Have you tried already changing the links so they would look like the ones that are working?

    Thanks for the reply, runtoword!
That might work in theory, but the problem is that some links are simply too long and are automatically “cut off” and continued on a new line, which then breaks the link.
Also, when I try and short them to display only parts of it, the link doesn’t work anymore.
What puzzles me, is that this is a problem known in PDF conversion, but the PDF itself works. It is only when it the PDF is uploaded (or downloaded – not sure when the issue happens) that the links don’t work anymore.

Hmm, from my personal experience I can’t say much about it, maybe someone else knows. Though I can only suggest the alternative – shortening the links through https://goo.gl/

Also, maybe it’s not working just in your one browser – maybe you checked with others?

Not a bad idea at all, but it’s a kind of business directory and the companies would prefer to see the full link.
Unfortunately, it isn’t an isolated problem in my browser as others have confirmed it.
    Thanks for your help though!!!
