I’m looking for a plugin that offer (require) different membership levels upon creating a site in a Network (multisite) environment. Many plugins claim they offer compatibility with Network installations, but all plugins I’ve tried offer the membership functionality on site per site level (towards the visitor/subscribers) and not for a site-creation network.

Do I need to code something up with an external service, (i.e. Cheddargetter, Recurly, Chargify etc) or is there any plugin out there geared towards Network setups?

Some of the features I have in mind:
    – The functionality of the plugin should only be applied on the level of creating new sites (i.e. the site-owners won’t have any access to manage memberships to their visitors).

    – Upon registration I want the site-owner to be assigned another (custom) roles than administrator.

    – Upon registration, the sign-up form should/could offer different membership levels.

  • Hiya!

I believe most of your requirements will be met by the Membership plugin although the assigning of a different level may be a little trickier…

To be clear (since this was posted with the Paid-Memberships-Pro tag), PMPro out-of-the-box assigns “one membership level per user per site”.

There is currently no out-of-the-box way to use PMPro to give access across several sites or to use that membership to allow users to create their own site within a network setup.

That said, it would be possible to customize PMPro to work this way using a few functions added via another network plugin. I don’t have the time to write it up here, but if a support customer of ours asks for this functionality, we’ll help write up that code and post it at https://www.paidmembershipspro.com for members.

Due to our design philosophy for the plugin, we’ll probably never incorporate these features directly into the plugin. We want the plugin to be as streamlined as possible for the standard membership use case (one site), but at the same time make it easy to do advanced things for advanced sites (like network setups) via a few functions in a functions.php or sister plugin.

    Cheers!
