    This is not a pressing issue as our site still loads fine either way, I can’t really notice any change in speed. So I am maybe more curious as to why the memcache toggle in the SG Optimizer plugin keeps turning itself off after a few days.

    Memcache is on in cPanel, I then turn it on in the plugin and it confirms memcache is on. I go away and check the next day, still on. After maybe 2 or 3 days I find it simply off with no warning or notices of any kind, just off.

    I have been in touch with SG support and they said something about resetting the port by turning it off and on again in cPanel, yet the ‘problem’ persists.

    What I have also found is core dump files in wp-admin. It’s been a while since I’ve seen such files, I know what they are, so I deleted them. A few more showed up, deleted those, and it’s been a few days since and no new ones have presented themselves.

    What causes these core dumps is what I don’t know. I once looked into a core dump file, but unless you really know what to look for, its not easy to make any sense of whats in there, and they can be huge.

    Can this memcache toggle anomaly be related to the core dump files I’m seeing? The core dumps have stopped, yet the memcache keeps turning itself off.

    Core Dump files are created by PHP 7.1 when it runs out of memory. Doubt that it’s related. Which plugin version you’re using? We had a bug but it was patched in 5.0.12?

    I’ve actually just switched to php 7.3 and updated the plugin to the latest version. So far, so good.

    Wordfence notifies me on a daily basis if there are any core dump files and I simply delete them from within WF. It’s been a few days now and nothing new, so lets see if php 7.3 makes a difference.

    The memcache toggle remains a mystery.

    What’s your WP Memory config?

    Thread Starter Sean

    (@sean-h)

    This: (from wp-config.php)

    define( ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘512M’ );
    define( ‘WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘768M’ );

    Are there any other WP memory settings elsewhere?

    No, those are the memory settings. Could you lower them a bit. I know you’re on GoGeek and 712M is the upper limit but if you have multiple processes not limited they can accumulate and some of them may find themselves under the limit generating the .core files. Set them to 448M / 704M and check if PHP 7 keeps generating them if possible.

    I have lowered those limits. But what about the memory limits in php.ini?

    We’re getting the same thing on our WordPress Multisite configuration.

    We’ve altered the wp_config settings (as described above), but Memcached keeps turning itself off?

    As Sean says, it’s not urgent as performance is still fine. Something you may wish to investigate however.

    All,

    Same problem here. Memcached keeps turning itself off. We opened a ticket with SiteGround and were told that SG Developers are working on a fix which will be provided at next revision level.

    Recommend re-opening this topic until issue is Resolved. To date, it’s not.

    Cheers!

    Can confirm this happens for me as well. Memcached in the SG Optimizer plugin randomly turns itself off.

    I’m having the same issue as well. Memcached toggle in SG Optimizer plugin keeps turning itself off after a day or two.

    I take that back. Not a day or two… it’s only a matter of a couple minutes before it turns off again.

    I just noticed something interesting the other day.

    The ‘problem’ still persists on my main site, but I also have 2 other WP installations, in the same GoGeek account, and it is not happening on either of them. Memcache stays on. Thing is these other 2 sites are just very basic landing/coming soon pages, which says to me there’s something in a developed/more dynamic site thats causes this memcache issue. But what could it be?

    Not sure why this topic has been marked resolved.

    I’ve had this problem all year, notified Siteground on many occasions and they said a fix would be released in the next update, there was an update today and it still keeps happening.

    We didn’t manage to include the fix in this release, it will be added in the next one.

    This still doesn’t appear to be fixed in the latest update?
