Menu bar – Add Drop Down

I have a theme that doesn’t support drop down in menu. Could anybody help me and guide me through where I have to edit stuff to change the menu and nav bar? I know I have to change it in header.php but I tried multiple codes and such and nothing worked properly. I contacted the authors of the theme but they weren’t of much help.
