• Hello,

I have developped a website in local (with WAMPServer) with the Virtue theme.
When moving all the website from localhost to the webserver (hosted by OVH), all menus have disappeared (and some widgets as well).
Anyway, the articles I have written does appear on the webiste on the web server.
Could you help me how to activate the menus of the website on the webserver?
Do you I have some settings to change in OVH?

    Thanks
    Regards

    Gilles

    Hey Gilles,
When moving a website you just need to reenable the menus and widgets. You can set the menus from Appearance > Menus and the widgets from Appearance > Widgets.

How did you transfer? Using a plugin like this and you would have everything when you transferred: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/duplicator/

    Hi,

Thank you very much for your help.
    We will try with duplicator.

Just for my comprehension, why are these settings lost?
If I transfer all the files through ftp and also import the complete database, I would expect that everything of the local website would be transfered to the server.
If I’m correct, the settings are stored in the database, so maybe some entries of the database have bad links when moved to another place?

    Thanks
    Gilles

It would depend on how you transferred your complete database and what kind of string replaced you used in doing so.

    Please read here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress

    Notice :

If you do a search and replace on your entire database to change the URLs, you can cause issues with data serialization, due to the fact that some themes and widgets store values with the length of your URL marked. When this changes, things break. To avoid that serialization issue, you have four options:

    Options listed on the page.

But save yourself the time and energy and use a plugin that does it all for you.
