Menu Items Are Opening in New Windows :(

  • Hello!

    I’m new to WordPress. For the first two weeks of blogging, my website was working well. But I noticed yesterday that all of the pages accessed through my top menu are opening in a new window.

    I wondered if it might have something to do with installing Jetpack, but the issue persisted even after deactivating it (as well as several other plugins).

    Please let me know how I can resolve this issue!

    Dashboard – Appearance — Menus

    for each item, check if Open link in a new tab is checked. If it is, then uncheck it. and save the menu.

    Open link in a new tab is not checked.

    Looking with chrome inspect the link for book-reviews menu item shows “data-wpel-link=”internal” target=”_blank”. The data-wpel-link seems to be used by a plugin WP-External-Links. Is it possible that plugin was installed at one time?

    Hi Dennis,

    Yes! It’s called WP External Links and it allows me to designate certain hyperlinks follow and no-follow. I deactivated it, and I’m still seeing pages open in new windows.
