• Hi everyone!

I have no idea what happened but I recently noticed that my menus are no longer working :/. I’ll try to include as much trouble shooting info as I can, I am NOT a coder so if at possible can you please offer the “dummy” version of whatever solutions you might offer ?? I would REALLY appreciate it! OK. so here goes.

I have narrowed the issue down to the Avada theme, I was able to do this by disabling all plugins & the problem persisted, the only way it resolved was when I switched themes to 2017.

The problem started after the wordpress 5.0 update when I moved to dreamhost (from siteground) I’m currently running Avada 4.03 with PHP 7.2 FastCGI I am in the process of updating Avada but it’s not a fast process as we’re working our bugs on a test site & I can’t wait till that’s resolved to have working menus.

    Any thoughts are appreciated ??

This theme is always causing me problems. If I had to guess they have added their own admin menu Walker. And since you can only have ONE in WordPress it’s taking priority over mine. (Alternatively, it’s possible that another plugin is doing this too…)

I suggest you try Workaround #3 in the FAQ:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/nav-menu-roles/#workaround%20%233

Also feel free to tell the Avada authors about Workaround #1. It would be nice if they could patch their theme for compatibility.

unfortunately, the toggle plugin didn’t help. I have reached out to the theme writers but I’m not having much luck yet.

Hmmm… I have a hard time believing that they use a priority higher than the 999999 in the toggle plugin, but you could try adding a few more 999s just to be sure. Maybe they are doing something else? I don’t have access to their code so I can’t say. If you have it and are able you can confirm they are using a walker by searching the entire theme folder for wp_edit_nav_menu_walker or extends Walker_Nav_Menu. If you find the Walker you can try to follow the instructions in How To Patch Your Theme.

If you’re up for making a donation to my sports team (and sending me the avada zip) I would be willing to take a quick look.

Can you contact me via my site please. I do not have a way to contact you direct, it looks like your site is down. https://www.eatingdisorderstreatmentreviews.org/contact-us/

Looks like I can’t submit as the captcha is always invalid. “ERROR for site owner:
Invalid stoken.” Thanks for pointing out my site was down. It should be back up now. You can use it to send a link to the Avada zip via wetransfer.com or similar.

I sent you a message via your site

Did you find a solution? Not work for me either ??

    Nope, not yet

I would check all your other plugins for a possible conflict. Disable each plugin, one and a time. Justkay sent me the Avada theme file and I’m not able to replicate any issue in the admin and can confirm that Avada is using the compatibility patching method I describe in my FAQ. So beyond checking your other plugins, I’m not sure what else to suggest.

I don’t understand what you mean by you can’t “replicate” the issues, the fact that the menu isn’t displaying IS the issue.i don’t understand how there is so much confusion around this. The menus USED to work, now they don’t.

I’m not a coder, that’s why I use plugins, I don’t know why it’s not working but I DO KNOW that it’s happening regardless of whether or not I disabled all other plugins or not.

As Ive told you before, the ONLY time the problem resolved was when I switched themes which clearly indicats the issue is somewhere between THIS plugin & the Avada theme.

I don’t experience any issues when I use the Avada theme, so your issue could be related to something in your child theme, a theme setting, or your menu configuration.

I incorrectly assumed you originally meant the admin options were no longer displaying (because that’s 80% of the issues reported and I took a gamble), so I offered to try to patch the theme. However, I discovered the theme had already been patched, so I’m not able to provide any more insight related to Avada.

If the problem is resolved by switching to Twenty Seventeen then the problem lies with Avada and I encourage you both to contact their support team.

I will leave one final bit of info that may or may not be related, but that other users have run into a couple of times. If every menu item is configured in such a way that all menu items are hidden… most basic example would be every item is set to “logged in” so a “logged out” user would not have access to any menu items… and there is no fallback configured, then there would be no menu for wp_nav_menu() to display. So be sure to double check that you have at least one menu item configured to show to everyone.
