Menu under header displays on two lines

Is there away to adjust the length of the Menu bar? There’s plenty of room not used.
I tried to shorten the existing menu titles to save space but apparently to do that I need to change the title of each page to do that and I’m wondering it that will mess up other things dependent up on those page titles. I’d like to avoid unraveling everything to do what should be a simple task.
Any help would be appreciated,.
