Menu won't update online but will on mobile

  • Hi,

    I have changed the top menu for the my site MediaIdeas but it doesn’t change on the preview or live version. However the mobile version of my site does show the changes. I have cleared the cache, but it is still showing the old version online. What am I doing wrong?

    I am on the customizer template

  • I’m not familiar with that specific theme but there could be more than one menu, and you’ve updated the one used on mobile and not the one for desktop.

    If you go to Appearance > Menus, there should be a drop-down labelled “Select a menu to edit.” In that drop-down, do you have several options to choose from?

    Yes, I have tried all the menus and made sure there is only one main which seems to work properly on mobile but not online.

    I’ve even deleted the menu, started again, rebuilt it and still it’s showing the old menu online but the new on mobile.

    Hmmm, one other place I can think of – in the menu editor, if you scroll to the bottom, there should be a “Menu settings” section. Next to “theme locations”, is there multiple locations (e.g. Mobile Menu, Main Menu)? If so, ensure both relevant locations are ticked for your main menu.

    It’s really weird. I checked those settings – and in the Customizr template, but there was no setting for mobile. I’ve now deleted the new main menu but the old one still shows. Before I deleted it, the new one showed in previous – and on mobile. It’s like it’s remembering an old menu that is no longer there. David

    Not all themes actually have separate menus for desktop and mobile so I could be wrong, but that just sounds like a possible reason for your issue.

    Yeah, I know what you mean. I was thinking maybe there was a mobile menu that was set to your main one, but the desktop was getting a default menu that shows if one is not set.

    Maybe try dropping in to the support area for your specific theme, someone else might have come across the same issue or the developer might be able to lend a hand ??

    Thanks doubleedesign, I was just thinking that. I think it’s a theme issue. I have a couple of WordPress sites with different templates and this is the only one acting up. Thanks again for all your time and suggestions. David
