Thanks for an interesting question. As you’ve discovered, the automated import function creates terms from the literal text value of the metadata embedded in each item’s file.
There is no explicit term “merge” feature in MLA. The best solution I can think of is a manual bulk edit process.
- First, in the Media/Assistant admin submenu table, find an item that has been assigned to a tag you want to eliminate. Click on that tag value in the item’s “Tags” or “Att. Tags” column to filter the display by the tag value. You can also go to the Media/Att. Tags or Media/Tags admin screen, find the term, and then click on the number in the “Attachments” column to create the filtered Media/Assistant submenu table.
- Next, select all of the items in the filtered display and open the Bulk Edit area for them. Enter the tag value you want to retain in the appropriate text box and click “Update”.
- Finally, when all of the items have been assigned to the correct tag, go back to the Media/Att. Tags or Media/Tags admin screen and simply delete the tag you want to eliminate. Check the box to the left of the tag name and select “Delete” from the Bulk Actions dropdown list.
I hope that helps you clean up your tag values. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions.
