merging categories

  • hey all,

    is there any plugin out there which helps me to merge some categories? cause i have a lot of categories and really need to merge some of them together.
    well, i can do it with SQL but that’s a pain and error-prone. a plugin for doing it would be great.

  • First, backup your database. 2nd, make sure your database is backed up.

    Then,say you want to merge Category OLD into Category NEW. In Administration > Options > Writing, make Category NEW be your Default post category, then just delete Category OLD. All the posts from Category OLD will be assigned to Category NEW.

    i tried that already before i asked, but it didn’t work. i don’t know why, but it trashed my categories. that’s why i ask for a plugin.

    Okay, sorry, there is a bug that was reported and fixed at Trac but is not slated to go into the real distribution until 2.1 (or whatever version that will be called).

    but still it would be great to have a plugin which do the job.
