MesoColumn Theme Not Working All of The Sudden

    Hello,

    I havent updated the MesoColum theme in a while and all of the sudden my site thats using it stopped working. The theme shows me a page saying Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_site_icon_url() in /home2/ethan/public_html/wp-content/themes/mesocolumn/lib/functions/hooks-functions.php on line 242

    I contacted my hosting company and they confirmed it was caused by this theme, perhaps being out of date. My question is do you think if I delete my current theme files and install the newest version of the MesoColumn theme this will fix the issue?

    get_site_icon_url() is new function in wp 4.3+, check with hosting your wp version.

    Note that I am currently using WP version 4.0. I’m sorry but quite understand you when you say ‘check with hosting your wp version’. Would you mind clarifying?

    yes, i think you need to update your wp version to at least 4.3

    Ok I’ll try that. But it’s worth mentioning that the site all of the sudden stopped loading yesterday afternoon. What’s strange is that I didn’t update the theme myself. But I did notice that an MesoColumn update was made two days ago, so maybe these are related?

    not sure, theme update shouldn’t be automatically run.

    Richie the mobile theme all of sudden stopped working. In fact I cannot access the theme settings anymore. Only the custom generic settings. Using wordpress version 4.4.1. Also header is not loading either.Thanks for your quick response.

    theme option had been converted to customizer.

    Hello @rickie KS,

    I spoke with my dev and she mentioned that the most recent update of MesoColumn might change the way the my site looks since customizations were made under the older version. As a result she may have to spend time getting the site to look like it was if we decide to update MesoColumn. Currently, I am using Version 1.6.4.1.

    My main question is what would your recommendation be? Should I update it? My first choice would be to not update it but that really depends on whether security vulnerabilities may exist with this version of the theme.

    are you using child theme? that’s the reason why i would not encourage any heavy customize edits to parent theme since i need to update the theme from time to time following wp update also.

    the theme had lot of hooks and action that can be customize accordingly.

    v1.6.4.1 do not have any security concern.
    check v1.6.5+ changelog for the difference.
