    Hi there,

    Thanks for contacting us here at WooCommerce.com!

    I understand your concern about the duplicate meta descriptions. To quote our documentation: “The Google for WooCommerce product description defaults to the WooCommerce standard (long) description as it allows for more product information, which may help in Google’s ranking. However, the short description is automatically used when there’s no standard description specified for the product.”

    This information is primarily used for structured product feeds rather than traditional SEO meta descriptions.

    To change this behavior, you would need a specific customization. I recommend the Woo Developer Resources Portal for resources on developing for WooCommerce.com.

    You can also visit the WooCommerce Facebook group or the #developers channel of the Woo Community Slack. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for Woo, and many of our developers hang out there, as well.

    And if we want to remove that <meta name=”description”> that is output from your plugin?

    Hi @espressivo,

    Could you provide a link to your site so I can check it myself? The meta tag you’re mentioning doesn’t appear to be added by Google for WooCommerce:

    <meta name="description" content="file size: 2 MB">

    The tag added by Google for WooCommerce is the first one shown in the image you shared here: https://snipboard.io/JFzbrV.jpg which is an open graph to indicate products in stock and shouldn’t affect that of Yoast.

    Hello espressivo,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I checked another site that uses Google for WooCommerce and I do not see this meta tag.

    <meta name="description" content="file size: 2 MB">

    Here is a screenshot of my site.

    This suggests, the tag is added by another plugin or code.
    I recommend disabling plugins one by one and checking which deactivation removes the tag.
    You may need to disable the cache when doing this.

    Let me know if you have any questions.

    Best regards.
