    Hi,

I’m new to Yoast (free version).
I’m using the latest version of Yoast, Woo and WP.
I have set a meta description for the home page.
The meta description appear in code page source.
    I’m using my own sitemap.

**The problem is that the description is not appearing on google research, I mean there is no description at all for the home page.

I only see 4 links under the website title…

Q1- How can I fixt it so Google display the meta tag description for the home page or how come Google does not display any description?

Q2- I create my own site map for now, as the store have many links what make Google select a link over another?

As the 4 links that Google display, it not displaying the more important ones so what can be done to push some link priority or should I leave only the more important link into the Sitemap?

Q3- How can I make sure that your sitemaps are not used?
(just to make sure for my tests)

    Thanks

    Hello Lenamtl,

Thanks for reaching out; we have addressed your concerns below:

Q1- How can I fixt it so Google display the meta tag description for the home page or how come Google does not display any description?
To provide some context, please provide the URL of the homepage

Q2- I create my own site map for now, as the store have many links what make Google select a link over another?
The question is not clear. However, since you are not using the Yoast-generated sitemap, we are unable to provide assistance regarding your own created sitemap

Q3- How can I make sure that your sitemaps are not used?
You can disable the Yoast XML Sitemap in your WordPress dashboard > SEO > General > Features and ‘Save Changes’.

    Hi,

I just read that Google change the way they display title and content and not using anymore title tag and description and use H1 or other content from the page.
    Ref https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2021/08/update-to-generating-page-titles

I have recently index 2 new website and they are both affected by the new algorythm.

So it look like we won’t need description and title for the future…

I have disable Yoast and now Google display a description from H1 of page.

Let me know if there is a setting that could block the Google description.
By disabling Yoast it fixed the problem for now.

    Hi,

If you check the updated article and documentation from Google, they still state that they use around 87% of the title tags as the title that would output in the search results – https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2021/09/more-info-about-titles

It’s still fundamentally sound to set a descriptive title and meta description for your posts and pages, and while it’s not a guarantee that Google will use that given metadata, it’s still best practice to do so, aside from writing great content.
