That’s really very strange. We have fixed the issue a long back, still, you are getting that issue.

May I know which SEO plugin you are using? So that I can immediately help you to fix the issue

I am using All-in-One SEO and WP-Social.

I’ll dig into the code tomorrow to find the rudimentary cause.

OK, so I couldn’t find a direct cause for this effect to happen.

Nevertheless, I think it’s related to the Blog Page selection being the default — Select — option.

If you don’t have a blog page assigned, continue with the following steps.

This might not solve this issue, but you should do it anyway, regardless:

1. If you haven’t already, create a Page for your blog. Even if you don’t use it.
2. If you don’t (want to) use it, enable “noindex” for it through your SEO plugin for it.
3. Go to wp-admin/options-reading.php
4. Set “Posts page:” to your new Blog page.

Why should you do it?
Well, there are numerous technical reasons, one of which is that get_the_ID() and get_queried_object_ID() can show different values.
The other is that get_option('page_for_posts') will return 0, which is identical to the home page… Thus is_home() can and will return true, while it always should be false. So then is_front_page() can also show unexpected behavior.

All the functions named above are extremely common in almost every front-end plugin.
Setting a blog page will alleviate you from discovering future issues.

@cybr, i think, problem is bad WP_QUERY [[ is_home() and is_front_page() based on WP_QUERY, so veird output ]]
Unfortunately i don’t know what modifies WP_QUERY for homepage.

I just followed your instructions on two sites with different themes.

The AMP plugin still just pulls in the meta title and description from the most recent page or post on the site.

Simple fix, need testing and adopt

accelerated-moblie-pages.php file:

add_rewrite_rule(
 'amp/?$',
 index.php?amp',
 'top'
);

change to:

add_rewrite_rule(
 'amp/?$',
 'index.php?amp&page_id=' . get_option( 'page_on_front' ),
 'top'
);

and add:

function disable_canonical_redirect_for_front_page( $redirect ) {
    if ( is_page() && $front_page = get_option( 'page_on_front' ) ) {
        if ( is_page( $front_page ) )
            $redirect = false;
    }
    return $redirect;

Thanks for the suggestion and it actually works but here is the problem.
The Home page now has two meta description tags although the correct meta title is displaying on my test site.

The first meta description is being created by pulling in the first sentence or so of the text of the page.

The second one may or may not be getting pulled in from All-in-One SEO.

@lancecarr, check please AMP > Getting Started > SEO >> Meta Description (The meta tag that displays in head) option. It must be disabled.
