Method for labelling past events

Hi,

I understand there’s no way to automatically remove past events, but could somebody suggest a way to label a past event as “past” or “closed” on the single event page? Perhaps comparing the event date with today’s date, so something like:

If event date is earlier than today then do something.

I’m not sure how to get the event date though.

Any advice would be appreciated.
