A client is closing down their business. They’d like an archive of their site that we can put on a CD/thumbdrive so that it could be browsed locally. What’s the best method for this?

I’ve seen several services that convert the sites, but they all seem to be based on keeping the site live, which we don’t need. We just want the HTML files in a workable/useable fashion.

  • There is WP2Static, which used to be in the WP plugin repository, but recently moved to GitHub.
There is also an external tool called HTTrack: https://www.httrack.com/
You could also use a migration plugin to copy the database and files, and restore them on a computer where WordPress is installed, if you ever want to use the data again. (you can install WordPress on your computer easily)

Thank you. For the sake of anyone following this, I wasn’t able to find WP2Static. I did find Simply Static, which is still in the WP Repository but does not appear to work.

I ended up using Site Sucker, which seems to be a Mac version of HTTrack. It worked great.
