• I am trying to change the appearance of the MH Foodmagazine template, which is a child theme of MH Magazine Lite. So that my changes to the CSS aren’t overwritten if the Foodmagazine template is updated, I have tried to create a child theme of this theme. However, on the page listing the installed themes, I get the following message at the bottom of the page:

    Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete.

    Name
    MH Food Magazine Child Theme

    Description
The “mh-foodmagazine” theme is not a valid parent theme.

On the other hand, if I just add the CSS from MH Foodmagazine to the styles.css of MH Magazine Lite, the page doesn’t display properly.

What is the best solution to this? Does a child theme such as MH Foodmagazine even get updated, or can I make any changes directly to that theme without having to worry about it? What is the best approach?

Thanks for any help with this.

  • Hi jkneif,

thanks for using MH FoodMagazine and we’re happy that you like the theme.

In WordPress you can’t create a child theme of a child theme. But in case you want to add custom CSS code, you could make use of plugins like Simple Custom CSS.

As an alternative, you could have a look at the premium version of MH Magazine which can be configured to have the same look as MH FoodMagazine by making use of the included options and custom widgets (see theme demo). Creating a child theme for the MH Magazine theme is possible in case you want to customize the theme further.

By the way, the dedicated support forum for MH FoodMagazine is located here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/mh-foodmagazine
