I have a live WP site that has several existing menus created from the WP dashboard.

In development, I’ve created a new menu that I’d like to migrate to the live site, but didn’t want to have to do it manually through the dashboard again on the live site.

Is there a recommended way to do this with an export/import? I don’t want to migrate the entire DB or any Pages/Posts, just a specific menu. And I would want to keep the menus on the live site that are already there.

  • There’s no menu exporter because menu items aren’t linked to pages/posts etc. via a URL, but by the ID of the post/page/term that it links to, so unless you’re importing into a clone of the site you’re exporting from (which you might, but can’t be guaranteed by any exporter, and would be rare) the menu items wouldn’t be linked to the correct items.

There is a plugin, https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/menu-exporter/, but because of the issue I described, it also exports everything that the menu links to, which isn’t what you want by the sounds of it.

Thanks for your helpful reply, Jacob.

It sounds like the best way is just to create it manually. Not that big of a deal, but it’s good to know that there isn’t really a good way to migrate just the menus.
