migrate old page (not wordpress) to new wordpress template

  • I just uploaded wordpress to my host server and want to start building what will be my new website how do i go about this. Right now my old site is still up and running.

    how do i build new site while the other one is still live?
    How do I look at the progress of my new site during construction?
