Do I close the old blog by erasing it from the server and then re-name the new one so it has the same name?

Maybe. The problem here is you can’t just rename the blog, you have to do it properly in the DB. What did you move FROM and what did you move TO?

You can use example urls like

oldsite.com to newsite.com/oldsite or whatever

The new site is currently https://atthequil1.thesupercargo.com

I think what I do is change the 1 to l in the new site address, but do I erase the old site before or after?

I would rename the old site to atthequil2.thesupercargo.com

Then rename atthequil1 to atthequill (two Ls! at last!)

You’ll still have to search/replace the DB though, so it may actually be easier to just use this tool – https://github.com/interconnectit/Search-Replace-DB – to do the whole search/replace in one go.
