I need to migrate content from an old WP 3.4.2 site to a new new 3.9.2 installation, because the theme used for the old site is not upgradeable, and a complete rebuild has been recommended. This is an ecommerce site using WooCommerce, and also has some custom fields.

Can anyone recommend site export and import methods/plugins that will do this reasonably straightforwardly, including pulling across all the users and their passwords (and of course all the other info in each user account, since they’ve given shipping addresses etc)? I’ve found a variety of possible plugins but none of them are specific enough in what they can/can’t do (or turn out to be more complex to use in practice than their front page descriptions claim!)

They also need to be able to cope with exporting from 3.4.2 and importing the result into 3.9.2 (though I think I understand that this isn’t a big deal?)

    Many thanks!

  • I don’t know for sure it will work, but it is safe to try WP Clone. I’ve had very good luck with it.

Thanks sunrader, but I think that’s only for copying whole sites. I’ve been told I have to install the new theme into a clean install of WordPress and THEN import all the content, so I need to be selective about what comes across. It’s essentially about the database content, but I do know I certainly can’t just clone the database! :p

FYI, I just ended up installing as much as I could in the way of matching plugins etc in a clean WordPress install, then just migrated the entire database and fixed anything that broke. It actually worked as well as could be expected (only took me 3 days!), and has successfully transferred all the users, their settings, and all the WooCommerce transactions, products etc in one go, so that was a bit of a result! ??
