• Hello. I had my website designed in dreamweaver, and have used that for over a year to maintain my site. I only have basic html knowledge, but find I have no problems with it. I’ve wanted to make some site changes, and the programmer I used suggested I look into using wordpress instead.

    I have a couple questions.
Can I use my dreamweaver site template in wordpress?
Can I install wordpress on my current server and still keep my current website active and working while I recreate my site in wordpress? I really can’t afford any downtime while trying to migrate to different platform.

Thanks so much for any assistance and thoughts.

    Thanks Sina.
My current hosting server (lunarpages) I use has a one-click install for wordpress. I have a dreamweaver template that I use for all my website pages.

I guess what I mean is that if I install wordpress and start trying to migrate my site over from dreamweaver, will my current website still be active and working while I try to recreate it in wordpress, without downtime? Can I just replace my current site with the new wordpress one when I’m ready?
Still not sure if I’m explaining correctly or clear though.
    Thanks.

Ok,I think you want to transfer your website to WordPress.

If that’s right.so you have some static files like index.html/index.php

at this situation you can install wordpress but you should rename your wordpress’s index.php file to other name i.e wp-index.php and do migration.
finally you can delete previous files and rename wp-index to index.php.

be careful which you should not enable permalink.

Yes, correct. I want to transfer my site to WordPress.

I think I understand what you are saying. So all of my pages I can recreate by naming slightly different such as i.e wp-index.php, etc., then when ready delete the “wp-” and replace old pages/files. Correct?

What do you mean by don’t enable permalink? What is that?

permalink is an option in wordpress which when you enable it. it will modify your .htaccess file.

    for more info please,search “Permalink+WordPress”

Along the same lines – is there a way to migrate content from a DW site into WP? Or is it all manual?

    Thanks!
