• Hi,

Very grateful of help from someone more technically able. I have an old website on sandvox and I want to migrate it over to wordpress as the version of the sandvox software is very buggy and the site looks very dated. I will have to do this manually I guess and am keen to use an astra theme and create myself. My question is should I buy hosting through bluehost or someone else and then use my domain for the live site and start building or build it on wordpress.com for now and then transfer it over? If I do the first one how do I ensure the current site stays live until migration has taken place? If the second one is it an easy process to transfer from wordpress.com to my domain? For both Id really appreciate input on how do I repoint the domain to the new site and turn the old one off as well as guidance how best you would advise I do this!

Thanks a lot for any help with this.

  • Hello wizzooo100,

That completely depends on you. Both approaches can be done.

If you feel 1st is better, you can create a WP site as a subdomain and once site is ready you can switch the domain.

Try to choose the domain and hosting which provide proper support when needed.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Kartik,

guess il go through bluehost. So I just choose my hosting package and give my current domain which wont affect my current live site? I then pay and then create a subdomain with the name dev site? When I am ready to switch over can you advise how that works in terms of pointing the domain to this subdomain? I guess I need to contact the former hosting company etc?

    thanks a lot
