Migrating sites away from Enfold – great experience with Kadence

  • Have used the Enfold theme for years, but have never succeeded in overcoming the poor mobile page load speeds. The Kadence theme with Gutenberg and the Kadence Block plugin is proving a powerful combination. I’m getting mobile page loads on Google PageSpeed of 1.4 sec (99%) versus 5.3 sec (86%) with Enfold. It looks like I won’t even need the Litespeed caching plugin. Very impressed.

    I’m planning to do the same for the same reasons!

    How did you manage to migrate your sites from Enfold to Kadence? Did you just apply the new theme to the existing site?

    Hey @davidebongianni,

    One by one, I created a staging site, enabled the Kadence theme, and then:
    – set-up the header and footer, global styles (fonts/links etc), and global page/post layout
    – went through each page and post, stripped out all the [enfold shortcodes], and used the live site on another screen to help rebuild the design (e.g. columns, spacers, media) on each page

    When complete, (1) copy the /wp-uploads/ directory to the live site, (2) import the database, (3) open the wp_options table and set the option_value of siteurl and home to e.g. https://yoursite.com, (4) install and run the Better Search Replace plugin to update all the urls in the database (excluding the https://www. part) from e.g. staging.yoursite.com to yoursite.com.

    Needless to say, take backups of the sites and databases before making any changes ??
