• Hello all,

A while back, I created a hosted WP.com site and today I registered a domain name, exported the site, imported to my self-hosted one.

Everything has gone really well, with only a couple of things that I would like some help with:

    1. When I created the self-hosted blog, I did so with a temporary login that I thought I would delete later. I have imported the user from my original WP site, but I cannot delete the temporary user.

    2. I would like to import the ‘likes’ that some of my entries have gained, can this be done?

    3. I would also like to import the followers, is this possible?

    Thanks in advance!
    Nick.

  • For Q1 I havn’t done this for a long time but I’m pretty sure the process is still the same. First we need to create a new user and assign the role of Admin to it, then login using this new admin to delete the old one.

For Q2 and Q3 we need to install Jetpack and do the following steps

Brilliant, thank you, Paul and I will look into those options tonight when I get home. Many thanks!

    Nick.

    Hi there,

I did the migration first and that went well although it didn’t migrate the ‘likes’. I can live with that though.

Then I created a user and deleted the temporary user that I used to set the site up with. After that, I used my WP.com user to delete the latest user.

Now, when I log in to the WP.com site and try to switch to the migrated site, I get this error:

    https://screenshots.firefox.com/v2UCJiKuX2RZOijb/wordpress.com

That image will only be available for 14 days.

    Please help! Thank you, Nick.

EDIT: I should also say that if I go to the backend of the migrated site, I am unable to view plugins or people; I get an error saying that they cannot be retrieved.

Also, I select ‘Debug’ from Jetpack – I get this page: https://jetpack.com/support/debug/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.longbikejourney.com

Hi again oliversm, please post the questions in Jetpack’s own sub-forum, it’s being monitored by plugin contributor ??

The post form is down below of this page

Also please do a quick search before posting as the issue might have already been answered.

    Just to update.

Well, it was my fault, as things turned out.

I think that when I deleted the temporary user, that was the user that was linked, registered or whatever to Jetpack – this is why it was not connecting.

So, the answer was simple – I just connected the new admin user to Jetpack, and all was well.

Thank you for your patience, and for your early help on migration – I really appreciate it.

    All the best,
    Nick.
