migration from one server to another

In checking out the FG Joomla to WordPress plugin, I found a few sets of instructions that indicated that the new WordPress installation must be on the same server as the old Joomla installation. However, I didn’t see that pointed out on Frédéric’s plugin site. Is that outdated information, or is it still the case?
