I have a website installed that later was to be migrated to a new subdomain. However, the account manager, when installing the latter, just copied via ftp the website. This resulted in mixing up to installations; in the new one (“heimatarchiv.eichwalde.de”), most actions, including the login to the WP admin, use data from the source site (“hosting…”). But not all, e.g. the Mediathek is used from the new site. This is really a mess, and I was wondering, whether I can wipe out the new folder and migrate the website correctly with the backup/migration plugin. However, I cannot login to WP-admin on the new site, as it is linked to the old one.

My question: is it somehow possible to migrate from a backup to a clean, empty new site? I so far only found migration possible, when the new site contains WP+plugin. I am rather a beginner, so installation of WP, database etc from the scratch is to difficult for me, and I have in the moment no access to the account at the provider, who otherwise offer apps to install WP.

Any hints are welcome. Thanks, Alf.

    Hi @alf66

Unfortunately, our plugin requires to have WordPress installation as well as our plugin already pre-installed on website where you want to restore specific backup.

You can play around on free sandbox WordPress there: https://tastewp.com

We require to have WordPress installation pre-installed as this way our plugin can be sure that there is database that it can access and restore tables. It’s not possible to setup database without server access (so, plugins like ours can’t do everything).

Such thing as database setup as well as WordPress installation can be done with one click on most hosting providers (as you mentioned).

In case you can’t do it with one click, it’s still easy and worth to learn ability. There are tons of tutorials that can allow you to go through this process step by step, let me share one created by www.ads-software.com:

In case you don’t have MySQL and phpMyAdmin:
    https://javahelps.com/how-to-install-mysql-with-phpmyadmin-on-ubuntu

Above guide will also show you how to create Web Server which will be used by WordPress later.

Let me know if I can help you any further ??
    Thank you!
