Minification and combining not working

hey guys,
Great plugin very easy to understand and well documented. I am having issues with the combine settings for CSS and javascript. Simply with the settings enabled the files are not combining or minifying.

I have gone through the settings documentation several times and I don’t see any other settings that I need to look for to fix this. is there any other reports of this not working or additional documentation which I need to look at?
