Minify uses massive amounts of GPU
-
Last night I turned on WD Total Cache’s Minify for HTML/XML, CSS, and JS, with “update external files” and “garbage collection” set to every 24 hours.
This sped up my site a lot, but in the 10 hours it’s been active, it has increased my hourly GPU use by 3–20x. YIKES. In the 10 hours minify has been running it has become the third largest user of GPU for the last month.
The offending file is /wp-content/plugins/w3-total-cache/pub/minify.php. I have disabled minify again, but I’m already on track to double my daily average GPU use for <10 hours of minify.
What’s going on? How can I fix this? I would really like my site to be nice and fast, but the overages this would cause would cost me hundreds of dollars a month.
