Minimilistic Website Design and Image handling

Thanks for dropping by to read my message.

I have never worked with WordPress. This is my first post here and I know (somewhat) how to write in PHP.

I am actually making a website with very minimalistic design and requirements.

Here is the thing. I just need to show the pictures( + description) of my projects with some categorization according to my projects. I also want the added pictures (within every project) to be show themselves as slide show.

If you just see the main page + the Projects link of this website, this is exactly what I need to do.

Moreover, I need one additional thing. When my end user adds pictures for a new project, they should automatically resize according to the dimension I set for them in the site.

Is this possible in WordPress?

May be someone with detailed knowledge of WordPress and all-plugins can tell!
