When translating in other languages, I find that some field text remains in English (like ‘select country’ in the country dropdown).
It is also not possible to make the country a required field.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @wp-apprentice

    I hope you’re well today!

Not all available translations are complete currently but I just checked the “Select country” string is translatable and translates fine in various languages, including German translation.

Are you using ready translations or are you translating it on your own? If you are doing it by yourself, can you tell me please how are you translating – directly in translation files or using some plugin (and if so, what plugin)?

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Hi Adam and Kasia,

    Thanks for your replies.
I am translating on my own. I have duplicated the English form and changed the applicable descriptions.
Are there other ways to do this?
I use WPML to keep translated pages connected, although I translate the content of most pages independently, because the connect is a little different in each language.
I know how to translate strings, if that would be part of the solution.

    Kind regards,

    Hi @wp-apprentice

I hope you are doing well

I am afraid for now it requires duplicating the form and adding different forms to the translated page, but our team is already working to improve the WPML compatibility, unfortunately, we don’t have an estimated time yet.

    Hi Patrick,
thank for your reply. It seems to be contradictory to what Adam wrote before:

Not all available translations are complete currently but I just checked the “Select country” string is translatable and translates fine in various languages, including German translation.

Where do I find this ‘select country’ string?

    Hello @wp-apprentice ,

I’m sorry about the confusion. Adam and Patrick were talking about two slightly different things.
Adam was referring to translation files https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/forminator/ – so the plugin can be translated to the language used in WordPress. Using translation files you can translate “select country”.
Patrick was referring to multilanguage sites that WPML handles – and that integration is not present in the Forminator.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

    Thanks Kasia for following up,

using the link you give I can download a file called:
    wp-plugins-forminator-stable-de.mo
As I understand it, this file holds the translation for the ‘select country’ string.
Where can I put this file, and does it have the right name for WordPress to recognize it as a translation of the plugin?

    thanks for your support,

    Hi @wp-apprentice,

You’ll need to save the file in the languages folder of the Forminator plugin. The exact location will be as,

    /wp-content/forminator/languages

    Yes, the filename is correct.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi support team,

I see two possible places where the .mo file could go:
    /home/<user_name>/yourhumandesign.ch/wp-content/languages/plugins
here other plugins have their .po and .mo files
    OR
    /home/<user_name>/yourhumandesign.ch/wp-content/plugins/forminator/languages
here I see a .pot file

I tried both locations, and also changing the filename to ‘forminator-stable-de.mo’
in line with other plugins’ language files.
None of this translates the ‘select country’ string.

Since it is a minor issue, I let it rest and wait until your team has improved WPML compatibility.

    Thank you all!

    Hi @wp-apprentice

The correct is /wp-content/languages/plugins so a plugin update doesn’t replace the custom translation.

Can you confirm the file name is forminator-LANG.po / forminator-LANG.mo ?

If not, please try to rename the files, you can also verify the string location using loco translation plugin.

    Hi Patrick Freitas,

Following your suggestion I renamed the files.
    The issue is resolved.

    Thanks a lot!
