    Hi
I’m fairly new to WordPress but have managed to build a working website (www.gamlingayphotos.co.uk).
At present, when I’m experimenting with different layouts, themes etc. I take my site off line using ‘Maintenance Mode’ plugin. What I’d like to to do is to have a local copy of my website to tinker with without affecting my online site.
Is this possible? Should I be doing this already?

It’s certainly the best way to tinker with themes etc. See installing WordPress locally.

Mmmm… looks like a lot of fun.
    Thanks

I’m thinking maybe I should start over. Initially I kinda dove in there, bought some hosting, installed WordPress and created the site online.
I guess what I should’ve done was to install WordPress locally, build the site and then FTP it up to my host.
Maybe I can import the backup of the online site to my local installation – maybe not.
I think I need an idiots guide.
    Thanks anyway
