Mirroring sites? Can I build a new site while keeping the old up?

    Here’s my problem: I need to build a new site while the original remains untouched. Once the new site is done I need to switch from old to new. I want to build both sites within one WordPress install. Any suggestions?

    WHAT I’VE TRIED:
    -Normally I use mirror settings with my host admin panel but I can’t for this site. I’m wondering if there’s a solution outside of contacting the Host.

    -I’ve tried installing “jonradio Multiple Themes” but I can’t activate or customize the theme without compromising the old site.

    -I’ve looked into “MultiSite” but I’m not sure it’s for me.

    Any suggestions?
