• I’m having trouble with images .. in WP (5.9.3 and before) and GeneratePress theme (but also others) I’m hoping somebody has a suggestion.

Sometimes, an old link to an image in the media library breaks. I do not know why. That’s not the issue.
Generally, the error messge is that there is no “alt” tag.

I can not ADD an alt tag and make it show up. No matter if I add the alt tag via page code editor, OR via the alt tag box in the right navigation, OR in the approate space in the image library, I can NOT get the image to show.
It will only show if i can find the image in the ML and reattach it. (PIA)

If I try to include an image from a URL not on my site (yes, I know .. but the links can expire quickly and I’d rather not bother adding more images to the media library) .. WP will not add the image because there is no “alt” tag. Again, no way to add it.

The only way to get it to show up in either case is to upload a new image and link to that one.
    VERY Frustrating.

Any ideas? A switch I shoulda flipped?

    THanks

  • Who exactly is reporting this error to you?

How do you embed an external image into your page? Which PageBuilder do you use? Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi … whatever?

A concrete example would be useful.

Sorry for the lack of clarity.. Nobody is reporting it. I just see it when trying to put an image in an image block in plain ole WordPress. No page builder. Theme GeneratePress.

AND NOW.. that I have finally asked, it seems to be working as it should. Had a site crash last week.. maybe what ever was bad.. got fixed in the upgrade? Guess I’ll have to wait to replicate. (No colleagues were reporting the same problem)
