I upgraded my wordpress from 2.2 to 2.5. Everything is working fine except for the child categories.

When I write a new post, only the parent categories are available in the “All Categories” section. Of course some of the old child categories are present in the “Most Used” section but not all of them are listed. When I went to Manage > Categories, all I see are the parent categories.

Where did my child categories go? I know it’s still there in the database since the blog still shows the child category name under each post but I just can’t tinker with it on the WordPress admin page and choose it on the WordPress write page. Anyone knows of any way to make my child categories appear.

    I resolved it myself. XD

I restored my backup. Upgraded to 2.3. Then upgraded to 2.5. Looks like you can’t upgrade from 2.2 to 2.5 without messing with your child categories. :\

Does anyone else know if this is the only way to correct the anomalies with the categories. I am also having a similar issue with author listings not working correctly either but I am loathe to restore 2.2, upgrade to 2.3 and then to 2.5.
