I don’t think that this is “expected behaviour”?

When the Shop Page is placed in anything other than the top navigation level, there are no CSS classes added to the parent menu item, making it difficult to highlight the parent menu to show which section of the site you’re in.

    EG .current-menu-ancestor and .current-menu-parent

The above classes are added to the top navigation when you navigate to Product Categories in a sub-menu.

    Hi @orangr-ghost

This behavior is due to how WordPress handles menus and not specifically a WooCommerce feature. The classes you mentioned are automatically added by WordPress when a page that is a child or grandchild of a menu item is viewed.

Since your theme controls this, it would be best to reach out to the theme’s developers for further assistance.

Please note that, we don’t provide help & support for 3rd-party plugins or themes as they’re outside our support scope.

I wish I could help more, but hopefully, this gets you going in the right direction to get the job done.

Before reaching out to WooCommerce, the first thing I did was to tried this with the Twenty-Four and Twenty Twenty-One themes. Both standard WordPress themes had the same lack of support for the classes.

    Hi @orangr-ghost

I recommend posting in the WordPress support forum or seeking help from a WordPress developer who can assist you further. They might be able to help you with a custom solution that involves adding the desired classes to the menu items manually via a custom function.

You can also ask for insight related to those on either the WooCommerce Advanced Facebook group or the WooCommerce Community Slack. Many of our developers hang out there and will be able to offer insights into your question.

I wish I could help more, but hopefully, this gets you going in the right direction to get some further insight/information.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
