• Hi,

I recently updated my site from 1.5 to 1.5.1.3. I followed Codex upgrade instructions removing all files and folders, bar wp-content and wp-config.php. I then went to add a comment to an existing post and all I got was the archive an no comment form.

I can see that this problem has proped up a number of times but I have not found a solution.

    Your help greatly appreciated

I have fully updated my permalink structure, all comments files seem to be there, and comments does not work on any themes – incluing default.

  • Did you make sure you have a viable comments.php in the theme folder? If you don’t have one, you can just copy it from the original default theme folder – IIRC, nothing changed in that file from 1.5 to the latest distro.

Yep all my themes have the comments.php file.

Could it be something to do with the db ? I havent changed it since the 1.5 installtion as the upgarde instructions dont say anything about having to remove it

Ouch. I’m very sorry to say that was my only thought about the problem…. I haven’t had the problem myself after the upgrade. If I think of anything possible to help, I’ll post back…. Sorry!

Edit: I don’t think it could have anything to do with the db….

Just to be sure, you did run the upgrade.php after changing the files?

yep. BTW what does upgrade.php do anyway?

it’s turning out to be a lot of trouble I guess it’s just a fresh install then…

Can you provide a link to your page richardlee where the comments form should be?

I believe the upgrade.php does in fact have something to do with the database. When you questioned that, I thought remotely possible if that step had been skipped, then it could cause issues with the database.

ARGH I just removed all files and folders and then ran upgrade.php, went into my blog and I’m getting 500 Internal Server Error ??

What do you mean removed all files and folders? You should run upgrade.php when all the new files (and folders) are installed – but before trying to open your blog.

Oops I meant that I had removed the previous files and folders and uploaded them again and ran upgrade.php..Sorry

Ok, so I’ve manged to run the upgrade.php, get the blog page up, and update the permalinks. However, still no comments form

Well, when you click on the comments link from your main page, it’s taking you to your archives. Check your archives and see if they are configured to show comments. You may want to check your index.php and make sure you are using the correct tag.

Is probably the one you want to look for.

    If this is your blog

you didn’t upload any of the WP files that go into the main level (root) folder of the script…

    Thanks guys,

I ended up reinstalling the whole thing since I was only using test data. I was waisting valueable time trying to pinpoint the problem. I cant understand how I could be having an issue if I followed the instructions to a T and was only using the default theme…not to mention 1.5 has been working for the past 6 months without a hitch!

Moshu you were probably previewing the site while I was reinstalling ??
